EMAS Club Europe meets at the European Central Bank
On 11th July, 2014, the Regional Group Rhein Main of EMAS Club Europe met at the European Central Band and discussed the following topics:
- Basics of CO2 Compensation
Mr Schunkert, Managing Director of KlimAktiv Gemeinnützige Geselschaft zur Förderung des Klimaschutzes mbH (www.klimaktiv.de), gave an interesting presentation on the current methods and certificates for CO2 accounting CO2.
- How can organisations use the existing EMAS system for Sustainability Reporting purposes?
VNU President Matthias Friebel gave a comprehensive overview of the manifold intrinsic qualities of EMAS and demonstrated the linkage to the requirements of Sustainability Reporting. A working group of users is to be established which collects information and methods based on the current EMAS regulation in a practice-oriented fashion. Performance, credibility and transparency of EMAS are an ideal basis for your Sustainability Reporting.
The EMAS Club thanked Mr Hofmann from ECB who arranged the meeting in a location which is not common (for most of us). Also, as an EMAS user, Mr Hofmann contributed to the discussions.
Thanks to the participation of Mr Rolf-Jan Hoeve from the General Directorate Environment of the European Commission the participants in the meeting received first-hand information and current considerations of the Commission related to the further development of EMAS.
The next meeting is scheduled on 30th October in the Frankfurt area.
